Review: Gold Dipped Clear Quartz Crystal Necklace by Boutique Lovin

Fake or Real? (3 Stars)

When it comes to jewelry, I don't usually care whether a stone is real or not as long as there aren't claims that it is when it is not. I have plenty of fake gemstone baubles and I prefer them to the real thing because I'm clumsy and I lose things. No sense paying the price for a real gem is I'm going to potentially lose it or break it. That said, I was really disappointed that this brand is claiming that this is a real piece of clear quartz when it is so obviously fake.

If it had been a real stone I would have given it more stars for sure because it's a beautiful, simple design and I absolutely LOVE the chain. But since the quartz is such an obvious fake that you can spot it from ten feet away I'm pretty disappointed. Roughing up a piece of cut glass and trying to pass it as the real deal is pretty pathetic.

With that in mind, I actually really like the pendant and chain. It's a pretty bauble that, in spite of being fake, is a good costume jewelry piece.

Review: I Hate Fairyland Vol. 1: Madly Ever After

Hysterically Horrific (5 stars)

What an absolutely vulgar, crass, disgusting comic!!! Give me more!

This is a monstrously subversive take on the fairytale heroine's adventure and I wish I had picked it up much sooner. If you have a rather twisted and dark sense of humor you are going to love I Hate Fairyland in all its dastardly, gorey glory.

I haven't laughed so hard at a comic since... okay, maybe ever. I can't wait to pick up the next volume!

Review: Papergirls Vol. 1

Weird and wonderful. (5 stars)

I'm always really hesitant to pick up a new comic when I'm seeing it praised left and right. It's easy to get disappointed when that's happening. But I couldn't resist the concept of a group of middle school girls delivering papers in the 80's. It was weird and it was fresh, so I gave it a chance and I'm really glad I did. It's really strange and the kind of book that makes you wonder where the idea came from. It feels like someone drew random concepts from a hat and had to mash them together for a dare. But it works really, really well.

If you're in the mood for something weird and wonderful to break up the monotony of your pull list, this is definitely one worth giving a shot.

A must-have resource for EVERYONE. (5 stars)

Let's face it... for a couple of generations now learning certain skills just hasn't been made a priority here in the US. We thrive on the convenience of paying others to bake and cook, sew and build, clean and repair. Awesome for those who have those skills but shouldn't everyone be able to sew a button or boil an egg?

Thanks to my great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents as well as family friends, aunts and uncles, I learned a lot of the basics in this book like making a bed and basic sewing but there were other skills that no one saw fit to teach me because I was a girl. So I snapped a review copy of this book and spent many nights pouring over it discovering things old and new presented in ways that made sense, ways that I could apply without needing any more knowledge than what was provided within. Many are basics, some are a little more advanced, but all were things I was ecstatic to have learned to do... or at least, have accessible in one place when I needed them.

If you're looking for a fantastic book for a curious tween or teen I would have devoured this enthusiastically at that stage. I think it's an amazing resource to give a new graduate or someone moving into their first apartment/house. Newlyweds. Friend who swears she burns water. Teen who just got their first car. Pretty much anyone and everyone can learn something here and I can't wait to pick up a hardcopy for those times when I really, really don't want to ask my husband to do it or call my father-in-law to ask how something is done. Two very big thumbs up!

Hence, the latest in our series of vocal remedies- a spray that works magic against that nasty sore throat. Think you're lost as your big gig looms? Think Sprouts.

Serving size: 6 sprays
Servings per bottle: 59

Echinacea – an immune system stimulant, it muscles up the body’s natural defenses, fights inflammation, and kills bacterial and viral infections. It is good for the immune and lymphatic systems as well as useful for colds, flu and respiratory infections.
Elderberry prevents the virus from attacking cells and promotes perspiration and the elimination of toxins through the skin. It is effective against colds and flu viruses and is recommended as treatment for upper respiratory infections.
Red Root helps supports the lymphatic system, improves circulation, and has antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is extremely useful in relieving sore throats.
Green Tea is rich in compounds which display antioxidant, antimicrobial, alkalizing, and immune-stimulating qualities. Green tea compounds not only help protect tissues from infection and boost immune response to infectious agents, but some also directly kill bacteria and viruses.
Thyme helps rid the nasal passage of mucus, inhibits the growth of bacteria, kills germs, breaks up congestion, helps to loosen and expel mucus from the lungs and head, and stops the coughing associated with a cold.
Myrrh Gum promotes healing of sores, shrinks inflamed tissue and helps fight bacteria in the mouth. It has been used to treat colds, coughs, bronchitis and a sore throat.Kelp acts as an antibiotic and antioxidant and increases depth of breath and relieves coughing. The natural, high iodine content of kelp helps it act as an antibiotic and antiviral agent. When the body has an infection, kelp will help assist the thyroid to release more iodine into the blood stream.

I'm quite impressed! (4 Stars)

I recently came down with the miserable cold that everyone seems to have gotten this year complete with awful sore throat that lasted for days. Unfortunately, my order for Sprouts Throat Remedy didn't arrive until I was on the tail end of the cold so I did not get to test it at the worst part. I did, however, get to test it during the uncomfortable phase where I'd mostly feel better save for the coughing save for when first rising in the morning.

I've never been impressed with an herbal remedy for sore throats before so color me surprised. Not only is this one tolerable in taste, it worked pretty well. I could definitely taste the elderberry and thyme components but they were pleasant enough to make this product one I will definitely use again when I get sick. I can't say for sure if it can handle the really nasty sore throats of tonsillitis or strep, but for the common cold I say it's a winner. It's also one I think those who do a lot of public speaking will like, it's quite nice for dry, overused throats too.

Gift Ideas: Moms & More...

Looking for a fun gift? Look no further than Got Me Tipsy on Amazon.

The "I Do What I Want" mug is my newest and hands-down favorite. Since I pretty much live off of coffee and hot teas I'm known for my epic mug collection. I even drink water from a mug. I blame never outgrowing needing a cup with a handle. lol

What has continued to set Got Me Tipsy apart from any other brand I've found is that not only are the mugs themselves high quality, the prints are too. Even with hundreds of trips through the dishwasher I have yet to have one fade. And if you want timely, humorous sayings you have a lot of great ones to pick from. They even do wine glasses!

Just in time for Mother's Day they've got a line-up of great mugs and wine glasses for moms and grandmothers.

Something new for dabblers. (4 stars)

I don't consider myself a spiritual person but if I'm honest, paganism and wiccan beliefs have always called to something within me. In particular the practice of tarot card reading has always attracted me and for a few years now I've dabbled just a little. The history of it is fascinating and the practice of it is one I find grounding.

When an opportunity to try tarot in a new way—as part of a spell—arose through this book I was very eager to see it with a fresh set of eyes. I'm very happy to say that I found the spells presented here to be unexpectedly simple in a good way. I don't like making a to-do about my practice because it's something I do for myself the way some people choose meditation or other practices so the simplicity of each spell (with some exceptions) is to my taste.

If, like myself, you'd like to pursue your tarot related interests in a new way I very much like the spells here and would recommend picking it up to try them. You'll learn more about the cards and probably see them in new ways.
