Beauty Rhi-view: bareMinerals And Away We Glow Kit + Swatches

bareMinerals AND AWAY WE GLOW...
This past weekend my MIL and I had our bi-monthly spa date. We get along really well and she treats me to this special day which is always a lot of fun for the two of us. She has no other children than my husband and my family is all far away so we get to girl-bond over foot rubs and the sting of brow waxes.

This past summer we were perusing the wares at the spa and decided to give bareMinerals a try. I've since grown to love it. Before trying it I had never worn foundation. I'd tried finding a good shade match and failed numerous times and they all made me feel like I was suffocating. My skin is very fair thanks to a predominantly Irish ancestry and miserable sensitive thanks to who-knows-what.

The packaging is pretty enough for gift giving.
Now that I've become a fan I discovered that the products are pretty far out of my price range. But being the savvy shopper I am I caught sight of this amongst some other perfect-for-gift-giving packages being offered and snapped it up fast. Now honestly I was a little worried regarding the colors. 'A pop of coral' blush sounded a bit bright. The dove gray primer shadow looked promising though and I love their glosses so I bought it with my readers in mind. If this was utter failure you'd know.

Products lined up in order of package details.
Included in the kit are the following products:

• Prime Time™ Primer Shadow in Dove Gray
• Swanky Eyecolor
• Round the Clock™ Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight
• Turn On Multi-Tasking Highlighter
• Luxury Blush
• Flawless Definition Mascara in Black
• Pretty Amazing® Lipgloss in Flair
• Wet/Dry Shadow Brush
• Contour Blush Brush

The instructions to repeat the look as shown on the model are included as well. If you'd like to see them bareMinerals has them on their website here.

The blank canvas. ;)
For the purpose of this review and swatching session I was wearing bareMinerals® SPF 15 Foundation in Fairly Light with a predusting of Mineral Veil®.

I kept it simple and followed the kit instructions swatching each product on my arm as I used it. I didn't go quite as dramatic with the eye as I could have but this was midday and I didn't want to look like I was headed to a party at 3PM.  So here are my swatches both indoors and out. I do apologize because we've had nothing but gray days and now snow so the lighting sucks indoors and the outdoors is kinda blah but you get the basic idea.

I took an indoor photo with flash to see if the highlighter would pick up nicely but no such luck. You can't see anything but the lipgloss and eyeliner in that shot so I'm not bothering to put it up. I'm new to the whole swatching thing so if you have any tips on how to do it feel free to leave a comment or drop me an email.

And away I glow...
The end result came out surprisingly pretty. The eye is dramatic which I loved since my hazel eyes always look brown (I don't even have any brown in my eyes—they're olive and orange!) and it really made them pop. The coral hue of the blush was shockingly subtle, I had to play three times more than I normally would to get just the right flush I was looking for. At first the gloss color was gross. Like 80's bridesmaid dress peach—I was a flower girl in a wedding with that palette. But was with most bareMinerals products after it warms to your body temp it blends beautifully. I never thought I'd love peach gloss but Flair is great.

My look versus the model's.
Overall the entire kit is worth every cent I spent. I think the colors would be universally flattering as you can see the comparison between the model and I. On the whole I am thrilled with this kit. My husband came home and complimented me on it, not knowing I had gone to special lengths. When I washed my face it was after midnight and the eye make-up was still intact though my blush was faded and gloss long-gone. My favorite product was the Primer Shadow, it was just so easy to apply and felt great. I will definitely be using these products again and probably repeat the same basic look for an upcoming date-night. ;)

My condensed thoughts about each product:

• Prime Time™ Primer Shadow in Dove Gray
-- long lasting, beautiful color

• Swanky Eyecolor
-- subtle color, easy to apply

• Round the Clock™ Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight
-- very long lasting, smooth application, washed off well with cleanser

• Turn On Multi-Tasking Highlighter
-- gorgeous shimmer, little bit goes a long way so don't forget to tap brush

• Luxury Blush
-- subtle color, needed a lot to get desired brightness

• Flawless Definition Mascara in Black
-- a little crumbly by bedtime, didn't bother my eyes

• Pretty Amazing® Lipgloss in Flair
-- didn't last long, great color

• Wet/Dry Shadow Brush
-- love this brush, very soft, would buy another

• Contour Blush Brush
-- bristles constantly fell out during make-up application, seems cheaply made

Notes: I picked up this kit at a local spa for $52 as the price tag in the product photo shows. I was in no way compensated for this review.
